Lobular Breast Cancer Research Partnership Day

24 January 2025

On Friday 24th January 2025, lobular breast cancer patients, researchers and health professionals spent the day together in Manchester learning about the latest Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (ILC) research, how a ILC diagnosis can impact patients and getting involved in improving clinical outcomes.

This event was developed by and involved representatives from The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Lobular Breast Cancer UK, Manchester Breast Centre, The Nightingale Centre Wythenshawe Hospital and the University of Manchester.

The day included exploring:

  • the importance of partnership and patient advocacy involvement in research;
  • the challenges of diagnosing, imaging and monitoring Lobular Breast Cancer;
  • current Lobular Breast Cancer treatments;
  • the psychological impact of a Lobular diagnosis on patients;
  • the patient experience of being diagnosed and treated for Lobular;
  • ILC research being conducted in Manchester and research updates from 2024’s International ILC Symposium;
  • patient tours of the research facilites at the Paterson Building and Oglesby Research Cancer Building;
  • the opportunity for informal networking between patients, health professionals and researchers.

"The partnership day was a fantastic opportunity for myself and others to hear first-hand patient’s stories post treatment, how they are navigating moving forward and ultimately what matters to them. Hearing their voices is what makes me want to help drive things forward to create better outcomes and more tailored care for our patients facing a Lobular Breast Cancer diagnosis." Senior Specialist Breast Cancer Nurse.
